The first win in the 2010-2011 campaign for AJ Auxerre was a big one! After losing 1-0 to Zenit St. Petersburg in their away leg of the Champions League playoffs, AJA returned to the Abbe-Deschamps Stadium and secured a 2-0 win over Zenit to win the aggregate series 2-1. With the 2-0 victory, AJ Auxerre have earned a position in the UEFA Champions League group stage!

Cedric Hengbart got the home side on the scoreboard early with a header goal nine minutes into the game. Ireneusz Jelen’s volley in the 52nd minute put AJA up in the aggregate and the home side maintained for the remainder to ensure a return to the Champions League after an eight-year absence. The Auxerre defense was aided late in the game as two men for Zenit were sent off.

Match day 1 of the 32-team group stage begins September 14 and 15. Groups will be drawn Thursday in Monaco.

Auxerre will return to Ligue 1 action this weekend when they take on AS Monaco. AJA will be looking for their first win in the domestic league after playing to draws in each of their first three matches.

Congratulations AJ Auxerre!

Dear SoCal Rush family:

We are delighted to welcome Paul Anthony La Bella to our growing family.  He is joining us from Antelope Valley, as we further expand our club to greater heights.  Paul has acquired many accolades throughout his career.  Please visit our coaches page for a complete list of his illustrious accomplishments.  We believe Paul will be an immense asset to our club and help us reach that next level.

Sincerely,

Jose Palafox

President SoCal Rush Soccer Club

A 4-1 win over Lorient over the weekend leaves AJA in second place (63 points) with only 5 games to play. First half goals by Dennis Oliech and Ireneusz Jelen followed in the seconf half by Valter Birsa and Cedric Hengbart, in addition to two red card ejections for Lorient, was plenty to propel AJA to their second straight Ligue 1 win. AJA will take on Toulouse (43 pts.) on Sunday as they prep for a tough stretch when they'll play first place Marseille May 2 and third place Lyon May 5. A top two finish in the league would put Auxerre into the 2010-2011 Champions League! With a third place finish, they would go into Champions League Qualification.

We would like to make a special mention for three young ladies from our sister team in Palmdale Rush that helped our GU13 girls in the Santa Clarita Tournament, from left to right JocelynLisa, and Deja. Lisa played defense and proved to be a key in the success for our Rush team, while Deja was a focal point as center mid, and Jocelyn provided continuous threat from the right wing scoring two goals for our squad.  All three girls played a fundamental part in the success of our team, leading them to the semi-finals.  The tournament director was so impressed by Jocelyn's performance that he decided to name her the MVP of the tournament. We would like to congratulate the entire team for their success, and thank these three young ladies for their help and support.

So Cal Rush to send 5 players to US National Camp

So Cal Rush to send 5 players to US National Camp So Cal Rush is excited to share announce that five boys from the club have been identified and selected for the USA National Pool '95B on August 29-30 at the Home Depot Center. Forwards Juan Carlos Martinez and Bivaldo Barrera, and Defender/Midfielder Nelson Hernandez, who play with the U14 Nike team, along with Victor Palafox and Alex Ranteria, who play Forward and Defender respectively, of the U16 team have been identified and will now be part of the player pool for the US youth squad. "The U14 Boys Nike team is fast becoming one of the best teams in the country. The teams' ranking is not a true reflection of how good they are because many of the players are economically challenged and cannot go to ranking tournaments every weekend," said So Cal Rush Technical Director MJ Tate. He continued, "Perspective of the team's ability and the talent of these boys is the 9-0 win against a Hawaii Rush Team that finished as Region 4 quarter finalists. While the team is very talented these three boys (Martinez, Barrera and Hernandez) are the cream of the group at this point in their careers." Tate is impressed with the two player from the U16 team as well saying, "The U16 boys finished third in the Cal South State Cup in their first appearance and continue to compete with the best teams in Southern California. Both these two boys (Palafox and Ranteria) have shown great ability and leadership playing with players a year or two older." Juan Carlos (Forward) - Is the team captain and can play central and wide forward positions. He is a pure goal scorer that has impressive speed and power. Nelson Hernandez (Defender/Midfielder) - Is very tall and strong. Good in the air and great vision. Has tremendously quick feet for his size. Bivaldo Barrera (Forward) - Incredibly quick, great balance and trickery. Excellent crosser of the ball. Pure finisher, can play central or wide positions. Victor Palafox (Forward) - Aggressive, tricky and quick. Scores goals for fun. Links well with midfield. Alex Ranteria (Defender) - Strong, good in the air, great distribution. Calm under pressure. Excellent balance and tactical awareness
